Amina Said, Head of PR, Level Shoes
I've been lucky to have a dynamic career over the last 8 years. I was always an academic from a young age and to me I thought if I could excel in that I would be successful. I soon realized that’s only a fraction of the equation. It’s about finding a passion and something that constantly keeps you inspired. My career has taken me all over. I started in New York interning and later working for designer Rachel Roy. I landed at Holt Renfrew in Toronto next, then took a leap of faith to join an e-commerce start up. I reluctantly joined the agency world short after to work on P&G Prestige. Having done PR for a fashion designer, a luxury retailer, a start-up, beauty brands, what could possibly be next?
I freelanced for a year consulting and working on exciting projects with friends. Shortly after I received an exciting offer to join a Toronto-based PR agency that houses some incredible clients. It was a no-brainer to take such an amazing opportunity with tons of growth potential in my home city. That was until I received an offer I couldn’t refuse across the country in the UAE to head the PR for a luxury concept store. While I’ve visited Dubai twice in the past it’s still a very unfamiliar city and I have no family or friends there. But after contemplating what would challenge my career more I came to a decision.
Fast forward to 2017, I'm living in Dubai and working for a globally recognized retail concept which I love. I've been lucky to have a career that has been filled with powerful, intelligent and supportive women. Some words of advice I've always tried to follow is to always challenge yourself career wise every three years. An industry I love and hope to take a deeper dive into is beauty but look forward to the next step in my career.
